Good Neighbor Policy:
(Herron Island Rules & Regulations pages are noted)
Several concerns were brought up at the July Board meeting that I, the editor, will itemize here:

  1. The grass along the roadsides needs to be kept cut. Individual property owners are reminded to do their part in maintaining  their roadside and ditches. This issue has to do with attractiveness as well as with fire safety. (Pg 9, #6, Members shall be responsible for maintaining ditches and culverts adjoining their properties…)
  2. STOP! Stop at the road signs that are in place on the island. Dangerous situations have been witnessed by several people. Obey the stop signs!
  3. Motorized vehicles are to have a green HMC registration sticker. You may get one free from the office. Motorized vehicles should have approved spark arresters (fire safety again!) and may not be driven on an empty lot that is actually someone's private property. (Pg 9, #2, Motorized bikes, scooters and three and four wheeled ATVs and golf carts shall be used only between the hours of 9AM and 9PM. They must have mufflers, speedometers, and lights. ...The HMC sticker permit must be prominently displayed. Anyone not licensed to operate a motor vehicle must be under direct supervision of a parent or other responsible adult when  operating..) (Pg 12, # 1, ...Trespassing on private property is prohibited.)
  4. Part of being a good neighbor is in the maintaining of our property and the disposing of our "junk" , or garbage. Members expressed concern that several island properties are beyond neighborly acceptance. Unsightly junk, debris and/or garbage negatively impacts the viewers, the neighboring properties and the overall impression we want to have of the island.
  5. Take your trash with you. The community areas are not for the disposable of household trash. (Pg 13, # 5, Unless garbage pick-up service has been arranged, each owner is responsible for removing all trash and garbage when leaving the island.)

6.  It would be nice to have the office open on Saturdays. Tickets, passes, payments and other bookkeeping tasks are available by mail. However we are all hopeful that someone "volunteers" soon.

Aluminum Can
Collection Cancelled

The Boosters will no longer be collecting aluminum cans at the community areas. We would like to think that the recycling effort means something to people. However, there was as much garbage  in the collecting bins as there were cans. This made for a very nasty job that no one wants to do anymore.
