September 8, 2001 Island Manager's Report

Transportation

· The dock inspection by an engineering firm has been completed. While no major problems were found, it was noted that some timbers on the ramp need replacing, and that the moveable, steel portions of both ramps (mainland and island) need to be painted soon. Additionally, the island bulkhead, where the ramp meets land, is continuing to deteriorate (as was noted on the last inspection) and will require repairs fairly soon.

Water

· The company that recently replaced the pump in Well #2 has been making repairs to equipment in the main pump house as needed. They also have cleaned up and upgraded old wiring and added some pump-protection safety devices that prevent damage if the electrical supply partially fails. They will provide a wiring diagram detailing the work they have completed.

Roads

· An electric pump for eventual installation in a permanent saltwater pump station has been purchased.

Administration

· Billing for the annual assessment has been completed and mailed. Payment (in full, or first half) is due October 1st.
· Our health insurance broker notified us in late August that the carrier, Aetna, is imposing a 25% increase in premiums. This puts the monthly premium per employee at about $268, $18 more per month than budgeted for.  After further research, the crew has agreed to change coverage to a lower cost Group Health plan.
