HMC
Island Manager Report
Board Meeting
November 10,
2001
Summary
Administration
- The I. M. contacted
Gary Petersen following the last Board meeting in regard to the operation
of V-CART, the 884-9911 telephone number and the fire department
liaison. Though he stated that a
letter would be sent to the Board in time for the next meeting, none
arrived. The Board decided to
eliminate the liaison position.
V-CART will need further information and discussion.
Transportation
- The Board discussed
getting a relief ferry
captain. . The major impediment to getting someone
is the nature of the work (being only occasional) and the distance to and
remoteness of Herron Island. One
person has recently sent in an application and that will be followed up.
- Some new expanded metal
will be installed on the ferry ramps.
It will replace portions that have become damaged in years of use.
Water
- Water samples taken in
October, following installation of a new well pump and new reservoir level
controlling equipment, came back with minor increases in total coliform
counts, making the samples unsatisfactory. This kind of increase is very often seen as a temporary
result of having worked on a water system. The Department of Health and our water manager, Larry
Williams, have been informed. The
last two samples taken came back clear.
Note: A light
chlorination of the wells and the reservoir will be done late in November,
to insure that any temporary contamination is removed.
